Bible Study

Tonight for Bible study we're going to be doing something different.  Remember how on Friday I talked about how God calls us to love him with everything we've got and to love our neighbours as ourself?  How we naturally and instinctively love ourselves and how we need to get over ourselves and our narcissistic tendencies and start noticing the needs of others and be willing to help meet those needs just like we meet our own needs?

Tonight we'll meet at Scott St MB Church at 6:30pm and then we'll be going downtown to Mahtay Cafe where the St. Catharines Standard is hosting a panel discussion on poverty in our city.

Worship Night

This Friday is our monthly worship night!  We'll meet at Fairview MB at 7pm for a night of singing praise to God and learning how to know and love Him better.

Mark 12:30-31 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength...and love your neighbour as yourself."  How do we actually do this when we live in a culture that is self-centered and tells us that the best thing we can do is learn to love ourselves?  How can we get over ourselves in order to love God and love others the way God calls us to?

Easter Stuff

This weekend is Easter weekend!!!  This means that there is NO REGULAR YOUTH THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, however, there are a few GREAT SERVICES that I want to make sure you know about so you can join us in celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ.

On Friday you have 2 choices for a Good Friday service.

Fairview MB Church at 10:30am

Scott St MB Church at 10:30am (this is a joint service with Grantham MB)

Easter Sunday we’ll be meeting for our annual SUNRISE SERVICE.  We’ll be meeting at Jones Beach (142 Broadway, St Catharines) at 7:30am for a time of reflection, singing, and communion.  Nigel & Sam will be leading the singing.  Even though this is early I really want to encourage you to come out and celebrate Easter together with us. 

Finally, feel free to come out to any of our 3 churches at 10:30am on Sunday for an Easter Sunday service.

Hopefully I’ll see you at one of these services, but if not, HAPPY EASTER!

Another month is coming to a close and that means that THIS FRIDAY is our monthly WORSHIP NIGHT!  We'll meet at FAIRVIEW MB CHURCH AT 7 PM for a night of singing songs of praise to God and talking about how we can worship God with our lives...sharing his love with the world around us. Included in this will be stories from Sean Fast & Emily Bowman about some cool things that God has been doing in their lives recently and...drumroll please...some more info on a great week-long service opportunity in Toronto that YOU have the opportunity to participate in this summer!

Bible Study

"Can we prove the existence of God, or are we left to grapple in the dark and take blind leaps of faith about what we believe?"

At Bible Study a few weeks ago I asked people to answer a few questions in order to help me focus Bible Study for the rest of the year in a way that actually helps answer and address questions that you guys have.  One topic that came up a few times in the questions was whether or not God is real and if he is real then how can we know that he exists. 

If you've ever asked yourself these questions then you should come to Scott St MB at 7 pm tonight.  We'll be starting a video series that will challenge you to think about what what you believe and why, giving you a solid framework for developing your thoughts.

March Break Movie Marathon!!!

I hope everyone's March Break is off to a good start and this weather isn't getting you too down…I mean really…a snow storm in March break!?

Some EXTRA AWESOME NEWS to get your spirits high again is that THIS FRIDAY IS OUR ANNUAL MARCH BREAK MOVIE MARATHON!!!  We'll be meeting at FAIRVIEW MB CHURCH at 4PM to get this cinematic experience going!

We've got a great line-up of movies planned.  In the past we've done some pretty amazing marathons (Back to The Future, Toy Story, Kung-Fu, Superhero) so I'm sure that the question on everyone's mind is, "What kind of movies will we be watching this year?!"  Well, dust off your tiaras because this year we're going to be watching PRINCESS MOVIES!!!  And don't even dare to think that if you're a guy you won't enjoy this!  We've picked princess movies that we're confident the whole group will enjoy!

We'll be taking a few gym breaks in between and we'll be ordering pizza for supper.  BRING $2 ALONG FOR PIZZA.

Pancakes & Bible Study

Not only is today Tuesday, but it's PANCAKE TUESDAY!!! Whether you know what this means or not, your welcome to come join us tonight for a pancake supper.  We'll meet at Scott St MB Church at 6 pm.  Don't eat supper before you come (or make sure to eat just a light supper) because there will be pancakes galore for us to enjoy together.  Then we'll take some time to talk about Easter and think of some ways for us to prepare ourselves for remembering and celebrating Christ's death and resurrection this Easter season.

Also, this Sunday (March 2) our youth worship band will be leading the singing at Fairview MB!!!  Even though only a small number of our group actually attend Fairview regularly, it be AMAZING if a bunch of us were there on Sunday to support our youth band and worship together with the church!  If at all possible, you should come!  The service will start at 10:30am and I hope to see you there!  If you're coming then just look for me and we can all sit together.

It's Tuesday and after a 1-week Bible Study hiatus it's back!!!  We'll be meeting at Scott St MB Church tonight from 7-9pm.  The Youth Alpha course that we were doing is now over, but during that course a topic that came up but wasn't actually looked at was spiritual gifts.  Tonight we're going to take some time to explore what these are and what the Bible has to say about them.  We'll also have our regular sharing & prayer time.

Now, I know what you're all thinking…"Phil, what's so awkward about dressing nice and eating nicer?"  Well, let's just say that Cupid's Arrow of Love might not strike as true as it does in the movies…

Winter Retreat!!!!

Our winter retreat is almost here!!!  On Friday we'll be on our way to Camp Crossroads for a great weekend of being together, enjoying winter, and worshiping God!  I hope you signed up, got your forms and money in, and are coming with us!

We'll meet at Southridge Community Church - Vineland location (3970 Glendale Avenue, Vineland ON) at 5pm on Friday.  Please be on time!  We'll be stopping for dinner on the way so bring some money along for that.  We're planning on arriving back home in Vineland on Sunday at 4pm…make sure you let your parents know this!

Things to make sure you remember:

• Sleeping bag & pillow
• Towel & toiletries
• Warm clothes
• Winter boats, scarf, hat, mittens, etc.
• Skates (if you want to spend time on the rink)

Iron Chef

Hey NEMBY!! 

This Friday were going to meet at Scott St. at 7 pm!! Come prepared with $5 and a lot of creativity because we'll be having a little competition!! IT'S IRON CHEF! Woot! Once all of you guys get to the church we'll get in teams of at least 5 or 6. You can even think about getting in teams now if you want. Then you guys will head over to Sobeys and pick up some ingredients you'll need for the dish you want to make. For those of you who haven't watched Iron Chef before, there will be a secret ingredient that will be revealed on Friday which you must incorporate into your recipe. I'll explain more on later. Hope to see all of you there.


P.S I know that some of you guys will still have exams going on till next week but think of this as a break. YOU DESERVE IT!

Yes, I cannot describe how we all feel about foosball, the feelings are too strong, but in all my years I have never seen a game played with so much heart, and so beloved by everyone of us.

Bring your team of two, this Friday, to Fairview at 7pm. The night to end all nights is tomorrow, come and have fun, come to get your name on the cup!

I hope all of you had a great Christmas, enjoying time with family & friends!  We're currently on our first of two Fridays that we're NOT have youth.  So, DO NOT come to any of our churches tonight...WE ARE NOT HAVING YOUTH TONIGHT.  You should however plan on coming to Angel's Diner on Monday morning at 10 am for breakfast!  Two weeks is too long for us to not get together so join me (and whoever else comes) for breakfast on Monday. Coffee House & Open Mic

We've been collecting money for our special Christmas project for the past 3 weeks and we're currently up to $200! Good job, NEMBY! Tonight, we'll be meeting at Scott St MB Church at 7 PM, but instead of our usual Bible Study we'll be purchasing and assembling the toiletry stocking for The Deck and we'll be assembling the Christmas Eve candy bags for Scott St. It'll be a great night of serving others.

CHANGE OF PLANS...THERE'S SNOW!!!

We're changing the plans for tonight because....THERE'S SNOW OUTSIDE!!! Instead of NEMBY Records, let's get all bundled up and go TOBOGGANING!!!

We'll still meet at 7 PM at Scott St MB Church, but wear your snow gear (snow pants, warm jacket, scarf, toque, mitts, etc.) and bring a sled, crazy carpet, GT, toboggan, or whatever sledding device you have in your garage because we're going tobogganing!!! 

Once we're sufficiently tobogganned out, we'll come back to the church to warm up with a Christmas movie, hot chocolate and snacks.

Remember to bring your money for our Christmas project...we're at just over $108 and another $200 would give us enough to do this well. That's a big goal for one night, but NEMBY let's do this!

There is a magical book that you may have heard of called the NEMBY Book of Records.  Many have heard of this book but few have actually seen it.  Well, this Friday is your chance to join the ranks of past & present members of NEMBY who, although they may have never seen the book, have their names recorded in it for the outstanding, jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring feats of strength or endurance that they have shown at our annual NEMBY Records night. Do you think you have what it takes to chug water faster, or kick your shoe further, or hula-hoop longer than your fellow NEMBYians?

This Friday is our 3rd Annual Youth Square Dance!!!!  Here's all the info, straight from the source (Jeff Martens):

Come one, come all to the 3rd Annual Niagara Youth Square Dance! We have a professional caller coming to lead us in a night of square dancing and there will be a plethora of pies and beverages! Knowing how to square dance is NOT a requirement.

Here's some details:

LOCATION: Froese Family Farm (280, Niven Road, Niagara-On-The-Lake) -> take the driveway past the house to the back barn.

TIME: 7:00pm - 10:00pm

COST: $5 at the door

BRING: Your finest country attire and a few friends

Community Care Food Drive Worship Night

Great job collecting food last night!  Even though we're not collecting on Halloween night like we normally do, there is still a big youth worship night happening at Bethany Community Church on Thursday evening from 8-8:45 PM that we're invited to.  A bunch of the other youth groups participating in the food drive will be there.  It'll be a great way to show off your costume (if you have one) and a night to worship God together with our fellow youth from all over the Niagara Region.

There will be pizza and snacks there, so if you're planning on going can you please email or call me to let me know...that way I can give them a heads up about our numbers.

Youth Bible Study: Community Care Food Drive

Today is the day!  I've been announcing, last week we handed out the empty bags, and today is the day that we collect them!

We'll be meeting at Grantham MB Church at 5 PM for a pizza supper before heading out in our groups to collect the filled up bags of food that will be donated to Community Care.  Make sure you wear shoes that'll be comfy for walking around in.

This is what we're doing tonight instead of our regular Bible Study...loving our neighbours!

Pumpkin Carving

This Friday we'll be meeting at 7 PM at Scott St MB Church to partake in the classic fall ritual of carving pumpkins.

Because all your usual adult & student leaders are going to be at Camp Crossroads for a youth leadership retreat, Bobby & Kelly are coming out of youth leader retirement to join you for the night.  What!?  I know, super exciting!

Worship Night with Camp Crossroads

We're going to be meeting tonight at 7:30 PM (NOTE THE TIME CHANGE) for our monthly worship night, but this is no regular monthly worship night...we've invited Camp Crossroads and a bunch of other youth groups to join us!  Beth Thiessen will be leading worship and Craig Danielson is going to be speaking.  Let's make sure we're nice and welcoming to all of our guests.  See you tonight!!!

It's TUESDAY!!!  You know what that means...Awesome Time/Bible Study!!!  We'll meet tonight at 7 PM at Scott St MB Church.  We've got a special guest, Pastor Jurgen, coming to lead the discussion today on baptism.  Whether you've been baptized, are thinking about it, or haven't thought about it at all, you should come tonight.  We'll start the evening off with sharing before he comes and end with prayer like always.
