Thursday, Friday, Infinity and Beyond

Hello Everyone...First off for those reading along The Irresistible Revolution for bible study, I failed to mention what chapter we'll be looking at/discussing this week. So, I'll do that now...we're going to be looking at chpt. 5...that's right, only one chapter this week. So read chpt. 5 and come prepared for a great discussion! James and Mark will be sharing their stories at the start of the night, followed by a wonderful discussion. So if you normally don't come, come and even if you're not reading along come anyways (although the book is amazing and you'd be a better person for reading it)...I'd love to see EVERYONE in youth coming to bible study and even bringing all your friends...let's start changing the world!!

Next up...FRIDAY! We're going to be working on our Kub Cars, so I hope you got your block of wood in to Vic & Kev last week or have arranged another way to get it cut out. I'm looking forward to seeing the genious creativity of you all! Regular youth time, regular youth place!

Plus, a couple other youth groups will be joining us which will add to the awesomeness of the night.

So see you Friday night for an awesome evening of relaxation, coffee, snacks and wonderful entertainment.

P.S. Bring along some money as the various items available will cost a nominal* fee

Tew-Night...& Tew-morrow Night

Hello all,

So tonight we are going to go hear the baptism candidates share their testimonies...among those sharing are Avril Harder and Emily Durksen, so come on out to support them and to hear how God has been at work in their lives and the lives of the others who will be joining the church on Sunday.

As for youth this Friday...well some things got moved around on our schedule some time ago, so while your church bulletin read coffee house...we are not having a coffee house...our coffee house may or may not take place on Friday the 18th...stay tuned.

So what we are doing is...well you'll have to come out and find out! Yes that does mean I have to plan what we're doing...and trust me, you will want to be there...well at least I will want you to be there. Please come.

end transmition
Tom

p.s. as always, find the hidden tracks!

This Friday- Interprative photography

OK this friday we'll be doing some creative photography, and to do this we need cameras. Digital ones, with a cable so we can look at them on the television right away. So if you can bring a camera let me know in the comments section of this blog. We only need maybe four or five because we'll be working in groups.

Mission Trip 2007: Montreal

Saturday June 30-Sunday July 8

Mark Durksen & Tom Friesen are looking for a few good youth!

Alright everyone, so just like we did 2 years ago, this summer we are going to be going to Montreal. Some of the fun we'll have there will be taking in some of the Montreal Jazz Festival and Symphony of Fire which are amazing! It's a cultural experience not to be missed and for me would be a major drawing card to living in Montreal.

We'll also experience the diversity that is the city of Montreal. It is a city steeped in religion (as can be seen in one of many huge, beautiful cathedrals...including one that Celine Dion got married in :) ). Yet it is also a city far from God. We will also work in some capacity with the poverty that is all too prevelant in every major city in North America.

The program that we will be a part of is Mennonite Central Committe's Learning Thru Service program which is described as "A service/learning opportunity for youth groups to understand cultural diversity and the circumstances of poverty." MCC has a house that we'll live in as a group. Each day we will be involved in serving alongside of one of the many agencies that MCC conects with (Last year we worked at a soup kitchen in the mornings and with a home that help people with various mentall illnesses be able to live on their own-as opposed to be in some institution). It was challenging and enriching. It will be an experience that you won't soon forget!
Information packets with everything you need to know are now available...Just ask Pastor Tom

Also, if you want to be part of the 2007 Mission Team let Pastor Tom know ASAP (but no later than April 27)...we're going to start meeting on the first Thursday in May...see Irresistible Bible Study

So, come, learn...for anyone who wants, we'll go out for coffee afterwards and chit the chat! The bible conference begins at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary at Scott St. Don't be late...if you are, just slip in quietly.

Thursday, Friday Happy Days

Hey all,

Remember for bible study to meet early this week: 6:30pm at Char and my place...

we're gonna walk over to Grace Anglican (Geneva and the Service Road) and join them for their Maundy Thursday service. It should be a great experience. I've attended their Ash Wednesday services for the past 3yrs. and their Maundy Thursday service last year. They have a nice small and welcoming community. I really appreciate the priest there, he seems like good people...remembers my name even!

So 6:30 @ 2A Water St. We'll head straight over to Grace, so don't be late. Likely we'll go out to Starbucks or something afterwards.

Friday...meet at Scott St. at regular youth time (7:30pm) we're going to be going to St. Barnabas for their Tenebre service...we've gone their the last 2yrs and everyone keeps telling me they want to go back. If you haven't experienced this service, come and you'll understand why. It's got to be one of the most different and coolest church experiences I've had! Don't be late as we'll be leaving almost immediately!

See ya there!

Make Pies to Support our Church!

Hey everyone, so the church is doing a big fund raiser Borscht lunch on April 15 and I've been asked if the youth can make a dozen (12) pies to auction off. I've already got 5 pies being made by some people (thank-you guys!!!) which means we need to make 7 more...so please let me know ASAP if you'd be willing to help with this.
Thanks!

MCC Relief Kits for Iraq

We are on the HOME STRETCH for finishing 2 relief kits for displaced Iraqis.

Alright...so by now you should know that MCC is in need of relief kits.

We are curently on track to make 2 kits...bellow you'll see what is needed yet to fill them. Please feel free to donate any amount of the items, don't feel you need to get as many as it says there as every bit counts! However, please do think about giving something as I'm sure if you were ever in a horrible situation where you depended on the generosity of others it would mean a lot to you!

Items in green have been donated (thank-you to all who have given). Items in Red are still needed.

If you'd like to give money, you can do that as well and I'll go purchase items with it.

Here's what's needed for 2 kits.

  • 8 bars of soap
  • 2 squeeze tube toothpaste minimum 130 ml/6oz
  • 8 adult size toothbrushes leave in package
  • 2 boxes adhesive bandages minimum 40, assorted
  • 2 plastic bottles Shampoo 450-830 ml/13-24oz; place in plastic bag
  • 2 packages sanitary pads 18-24 thin maxi or ultra thin
  • 2 Hairbrushes
  • 2 Wide tooth combs
  • 2 finger nail clippers
  • 20 cups powdered Laundry detergent double bag in 4 litre re-sealable plastic bag
  • 8 NEW bath towels med. weight, not white

The kits will be going to Iraq. Close to 500,000 Iraquis have fled their homes for other areas and internal displacement is continuing at a rate of 50,000 people per month.

Let's help them as we're able!

Irresistible Bible Study

Alright, so I just recently finished reading this book and it was crazy!!! It made me re-think faith, church and the gospel a lot! So, I want to look at this book together with people! I want to look at it with some peers in a small group sometime and I especially want to look at it with my youth!

So, starting May 1st our Thursday Nite Bible Study is going to start looking at this book and talking about it. I want all those going on our Montreal Mission Trip and anyone interested to be a student leader next year (and of course all current student leaders) to consider this mandatory. On top of that I'd like many more of you to join in on the discussion.

I am willing to purchase a copy of the book for anyone who commits to being part of this conversations...that means coming regularly on Thursday's and reading the section we're talking about before hand. Don't worry, it won't be difficult...I read the entire book in a couple days.

What I need to know is how many books to get...so either comment here that you want to be part of the study or else let me know some other way.

I hope all of you join in...it will change you!

Girl/Guy Night (a proud part of our heritage)

If you'll look closely at this picture you'll notice that the men are on one side and the women are on another...well, that may be alright for adults in a regular worship service, but I just don't think it's good enough for our young and impressionable youth!

So, we're going to full out seperate you all this Friday...

That's Right, This Friday is

Guys n' Girls Night!

Yep right the guys will be at the Church and The Girls will be at Charity and Tom's house (sans Tom as he's a guy and will be with the guys!)

So bring what ya need to stay the night...yer blankets, Jammy-Jams, teddy bears, steak...

Well that last one might just be for the guys. That's right guys, we will have a BBQ so if you want some midnight meat, make sure to bring something for it!

Also, bring your questions...it's not every night we get a chance to be together like this! I hope it'll be a special night for us all!

To Recap Girls will be at Charity and my place [2A Water St.] at 7:30pm...bring stuff to stay the night and bring questions and stuff you might like to do!

Guysmeet at the church at 7:30pm. Bring MEAT to BBQ for midnight meat as well as whatever else you'll need for the night. We got plenty planned for us to do so bring a good attitude or you'll break your adult leaders hearts!

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

This Friday, in accordance with our religious beliefs, we will be celebrating the Feast Day of St. Patrick.

Brief Lesson in Historica:

It is not certain that St. Patrick is in fact Irish, all that can be confirmed is that he was taken to Ireland to be a slave, escaped, joined the church, and came back to teach them about Jesus. St Patrick it seems, was never actually canonized by a pope, and is not really a saint. March 17th is claimed as the date of his death, although no record exists to confirm it. He is the patron saint of Ireland.

And because we can't celebrate in the tradition manner (imbibing copious amounts of alcohol) we are going to celebrate in a very similar manner: wearing green, eating green, and playing board games! I know I took part in a very exciting game of risk this past Sunday and I'm all geared up for more board games.
If there are any games you have (Risk, Monopoly, Stock Ticker, Diplomacy, Ultimatum, Candyland, etc.) that you want to play on Friday bring them with you. Additionally, do not forget to festively dress all in green, which must have been dear old St Patty's favorite colour.

Counter Reset and FRESH NEW JAMS!

Hey Everyone,

If you haven't noticed then I've royally wasted my time...but I've spruced up this here SSMBY blog a bit. Hopefully it looks as good on your computer as it does on mine. I've tried to work out some kinks and give some fresh flair at the same time.

So, make sure you Rock the Vote over on the side bar, come regularly to see what's going on and let's get that counter to 5000 in no time (it was at four thousand and something when I started to flair things up).

Also, go to the Ontario MB Conf. Link over there on the side bar. I'm in charge of the Youth section of the site there. I'd love to get feed back from you all as to what you think of it.

Next up:

B.S. That's right tonight is Bibile Study! Char and Tom's place (click the cookie for a map). Start time is 7pm end time is whenever the Atari or I get tired.

Friday we're meeting early for youth this week in celebration of Daylight Savings Time kicking in this weekend and also because we need to be at Southridge for 7:30pm. So either meet at Scott St. at 7pm or you can go straight to Southridge for 7:30pm. At Southridge we're going to be watching a movie called Invisible Children (click the cookie to see the trailer). I've not been told of any cost, so I don't believe there is any.

March Movie Madness!

Today is officially March. Tomorrow is also March.

But Robert, what has that got to do with movie madness?

I'm glad you asked. This allows for a brief etymology lesson: March is the third month is the Gregorian calendar. In Rome, the name for March was Martius. The month was named this after Mars, the god we typically know as the Roman god of war.

And tomorrow (That is, March the 2nd) we are watching a movie.

But what of the madness?

Exactly... exactly.

I had been waiting for the word from James as to any tidbits of information we might like to see here, but he's been a really busy guy with the Sears drama. (Which I saw and which was quite entertaining) So he hasn't gotten the word to me. I know however, that the movie will be awesome. Bring snacks if you want them, but there will be ICECREAM.

Concerts!

Hey all,

My friend Dan at Youth For Christ (YFC) is working to put a concert on. The date is Saturday, March 10th (first Saturday of March Break). If anyone knows of a high school band (rock not hardcore this time) that wants to play, please get them to call Dan @ 905-988-1331. Peace.

Go on out to that show if you'd like.

Also, Jars of Clay are in St. Catharines on Friday March 30. I'm not sure how many of you like their stuff or not. It is a Friday night, so if that's something a lot of you would be interested in then let me know and perhaps we would change our youth event to that.
Here's a poster for that YFC Event:

Zup wit Danny!

Here is the latest from our man Dan...

Greetings. This is Danny Fast.

I spent the past two weeks in a little town called Rio Hondo, in the department (equal to our provinces) of Zacapa. And when most of you were freezing cold and trapped in your houses because of the snow, we were sweating our butts off in 40-degree weather. Literally, in the shade, on the hottest days in the middle of the afternoon, it was 38 degrees Celsius. In the sun it got up to 47. We didn't really do much work those days. At least I didn't. If I just walked in the shade I sweated like mad. But forget the temperature. We stayed in a really sketchy hotel called the Hotel Maria Luisa. The shower leaked and the sink leaked, and we had to sleep in cots. But hey, it was a place to stay. Oh yeah, and each of our small groups helped build a house with Habitat for Humanity. We helped bring cinder blocks to the house and filled some of the cracks with cement and moved sand and just did general manual labour stuff a lot of the time. The days were hot and there were a lot of bugs, but we survived.

The Saturday we were there, actually, the guys from Habitat entered our group into a basketball tournament with some locals. We all thought that we would win since we're taller than everyone else there. But alas, we got second place. We actually only lost by 2 points, but winning isn't everything. I wasn't personally on the team, but I had a sweet time watching and cheering our friends on. I've noticed I've used the word "but" a lot in the past few sentences. I will, from now on, never use it again in this email.

Man, there are a lot of gringos here in Antigua. About one third of everyone i see on the street is not Guatemalan. In Zacapa, we were the only gringos. And oh yeah, there was this sweet river just a 15 minute walk from our hotel that we could go swimming in whenever we wanted. It was beautiful. And that Saturday also, we went on this adventure hike thing. It was really cool. Whenever we're in the mountains at all it reminds me of Lord of the Rings. Now i really want to read those books. The whole hike took a while. We had to trek through rivers and that's where I got a sunburn. Yeah, it was sweet. We stopped at this river and had lunch there and then hiked for like another few hours along a dirt road around the mountain and saw cacti and stuff. THEN, we had to cross this ultra-sketch bridge. It was like something out of Indiana Jones, man. We had to crouch down or else it would get really tippy and we had to go one at a time. It was pretty exciting. Then, on the other side of the river, we followed this huge leaky pipe that leads to a dam sort of thing. It was lots of fun.

So anyways, we have Spanish classes for the next 3 weeks and next weekend we're going to Monterrico. It's supposed to be a sweet place there, really hot with beaches and such. So long everyone, God bless.

Danny Fast

Also, Wednesday was Danny's Birthday!!! So wish him a happy birthday! If you want to send him an email but don't have his (or Beans email for that matter) just ask me for it!
Happy Birthday Danny from all your friends at SSMBY!!!!!!

Youth Winter Awesome Retreat

Hello fellow youth, once again this is Robert Mason.

I am not, however, at the church; nor am I posting in the capacity of Co-op Student Extraordinaire. Instead, my dear youth, I am posting as one of you - from your midst, if you will - this is news for the people by the people.

As many of you are aware, this Friday is a P.D Day, which means there is not school. This is an occasion of great joy for us all. More importantly, however, is that this Friday is the day we leave for the retreat.

It is imperative that you be at the church with you luggages (See form for details) and ready to head out at 5:15.

Retreat Forms Due + Other Stuff

Hey all, So this Friday, February 9th weather permitting we are going TOBOGGANING...that's right TOBOGGANING!!! So put on your snow suits and booties. Bring your GT Snowracers, crazy carpets, inner tubes, flying saucers and whatever else you can use to hurl yourself down a hill of snow with. Of course Tobogganing should make you think of winter and winter should make you think WINTER RETREAT and thinking WINTER RETREAT should make you think BRING MY WINTER RETREAT FORM AND $$. That's right folks don't forget your winter retreat forms and money are due this Friday. Tell your frineds to come on the retreat and let's have a blast!!! If you need a form you can get one on this blog site...it's just down a couple. So Toboganning will be a ton of fun...unless you're COLD which can be easily remedied by wearing your official
SSMBY HOODIE! There are limited quantities (currently 6small, 3medium and 3large left). So bring $35 extra bones on top of your retreat money and get a hoodie!
Also, Toboganning will be a ton of fun...unless the snow goes away...
then it'll be battle of the (h)AIR BANDZ!!! ! So, be ready for

that...and if we do go Toboganning, that only means you have more time to get ready for Air Bandz [most likely on March 30th]. Well there you have the low down on what's up!

Danny's Doing's

Greetings all!

It's time to point out the differences between Canada and Guatemala. You all know what Canada's like, so I'll just say the Guatemala part.

1. Toilet paper's not allowed in the actual toilet. They should probably change the name to "garbage can paper," because that's where it goes. If you're nice, you'll fold up the toilet paper before you throw it in the garbage can so that it doesn't look gross and it doesn't smell too bad. And if you DO throw it in the toilet by accident, it's only courtesy to go in there and pick it out. I had to do it once. Luckily there wasn't any no. 2 in there, only no. 1. I guess the sewage system can't take a lot of TP or else they'll get all clogged and then they'd have to break up the cobblestone road just to get to the pipes.

2. Firecrackers! They're not just for celebrating Canada Day or the May 2-4 weekend, they're for 5 in the morning and for all throughout the day too! If you've got money, why waste it on something useful like food or shelter? Buy firecrackers and you'll be entertained for days on end! Seriously though, it's as pointless and confusing as the fountain of lactating mermaids in Antigua Central Park.

3. Contrary to popular belief, dogs are not your friend. Only when you see a dog on a leash, you know they're okay. But when you see a dog limping down the street or missing a leg or covered in mud or not moving on the sidewalk, you know it's probably not a good idea to pet them. They roam the streets aimlessly and live on top of houses. Sometimes you look at some roofs and you see them perched down like they own the place. Those are probably under-fed household dogs though, having gone mad from never touching actual earth.

4. Public transportation is an adventure in itself. You can choose from buses, 3-wheeled car/motorbike hybrids called "tuk-tuks", or the malnourished-horse-drawn carriages. The 2nd actual bus ride I went on was insane. There's usually a young kid around 15 years old yelling at everyone on the street, trying to sell the bus ride to people. The bus driver keeps yelling, "Rapido! Rapido!" to everyone coming on because everytime a bus stops, it slows down the whole of traffic. Mind you, these aren't normal city buses, these are often really decrepid or really pimped-out school buses. Anyways, the kid is the guy who takes your money once your halfway to your destination. It's 1.50 Quetzales for a bus ride, which is roughly 20 cents Canadian. And so everyone's crammed in there and the whole thing is speeding down the cobblestone streets, destroying its suspension. Man, good stuff, good times.

5. Store security. You know it. There's no need for cameras when you've got a security guard standing at the front of the store with his shotgun or M-16. It actually makes me feel much more safe. That way no one's gonna try to rob you or anyone at the bank or the Burger King or the McDonald's. The security guard will just pwn 'em with his shotty if they try anything funny.

So I think those are mainly the major differences between Canada and Guatemala. There are others of course, like food and houses and language. Oh yeah, they speak Spanish here. And interestingly enough, when I tried to explain my dad is a carpenter, my host mother thought he built furniture, not houses, because all houses here are built out of cement blocks.

Now I'll take the time to explain what I've been doing so far with my time here.
Actually, about this time last week, I was on my way to Mount Pacaya, one of the active volcanoes around Guatemala City. Yes, I climbed Mount Pacaya. And yes, there was lava. It was wicked-cool. It was totally like Lord of the Rings. At about mid-point, we were in the clouds and there were scarcely any plants, just a rickety stick fence on the ridge of the cliff. Probably the coolest part though, was when we were climbing the black, freshly-formed volcanic rock. We couldn't make it all the way to the top though, because it had just erupted a few hours before (not massively though, I might add) and we were stopped by a flowing river of lava. Yep, I saw lava. Then I joked about forgetting the Ring back at the house.

The day after that, most of us ventured of to the oh-so-touristy town of Panahachel. It's cool there though, because it's on a lake called Atitlan which is surrounded by volcanoes. Around the lake, actually, are 12 little towns named after Jesus' apostles. We took a boat tour of 3 of the towns. The boat ride was cool, but the towns got repetitive fast. There are only so many indigenous people selling their pieces of cloth or other useless items before it can get annoying and repetitive. I know that's a terrible thing to say, but it got really annoying fast. So anyways, I was pretty proud of me, Jake, and Andrew getting the cheapest hotel within our group: 45Q per night, which is about $6.50 Canadian. It wasn't as cozy as a hotel in North America, but it had all the essentials we needed. Oh yeah, then I got dehydrated and had the runs for a day or so. My stomach gets upset every once in a while.

So we're having Spanish lessons every day from 8 in the morning until 12 noon. Yeah, it's pretty long, but they're pretty good. I'm still learning how to speak to my host mother though; it's tough. And I go to bed around 10 here, it's so weird. Guatemalans wake up early and go to bed early, compared to us. Anyways, I should probably wrap this up. In about an hour, we're all going down to Guatemala City where we'll stay in a seminary for the weekend and learn all about the history and culture of Guatemala. Oh yeah, and we'll also get to see the heartbreaking Guatemala City Dump and all the kids searching around in it for things to sell for a petty price.

And on that note, take care!

Winter Retreat Form

Due to popular request, here is the retreat form on our wonderous blog! I couldn't put up the more relevant picture of the snowball thrower behind the word retreat as is in the hard copy forms I handed out, so instead you will find the wonderful boy-robot "astroboy" here instead, who I believe holds relevance in virtually all situations.

Just click on the form here and it'll give you a full size version, then print it out and get it to your wonderous Youth Pastor, the author of this blog, Thomas V. Friesen with your $75

If you want to know anything else...just email me!

Hope to see everyone on the retreat as it shall be heap loads of fun!

What Danny's Doing

hola!

right now i´m in Jocotenango, Guatemala. i´m not used to this keyboard, so things might look weird. wow, this place is freakin´crazy. it´s so hard to explain. so it turns out i´m not with the original host family that was intended, but it turns out that i´m staying with my friend Brandon with this really nice lady named Blanci and her daughter Emily. they´re some of the nicest people ever. the language barrier-- it´s amazing what 2 guys can figure out just by knowing a little bit of espanol and having our dictionaries handy. at first though, we went to a really neat camp outside guatemala city. lemme tell ya, it´s beautiful here. sorry i´m not being personal or descriptive, but i´m sort in a rush. i need to be home for supper in 20 minutos. anyways, we went to Antigua, and it´s a crazy place too. the chicken buses are so hectic. it´s really hard to explian. maybe when i have more time i´ll email again.

to shorten it up, this place is crazy, yet so incredibly beautiful and we´ve only been here a couple days. we´re all working on our spanish and by the time we get back we´ll have it down pat for sure. God has really had His hand on our trip, things i´ve prayed about have turned out better than i could imagine.

hasta luego!

Bible Study and also a Live Board Game

Well, I'm back at Co-Op this week, so here's the Blog courtesy of Robert Mason.

Last Friday was Science Center/Girls Night Out(Loud). The night consisted either of learning spectacular scientific facts or of painting your nails and talking about that dreamy Robert Mason boy.

This Thursday, as with the majority of Thursdays, we shall be experiencing Bible Study. It has been some time since I, Lieutenant General Robert Mason, have been at Bible Study with the rest of you; last week there was no Bible Study, and the week before that I had family over, and wasn't there. This week though, I will see you all there! Come one come all!

This Friday for youth is Live Boardgame Night. The boardgame is... a MYSTERY (Thats a gigantic raging hint.) So come on out Kelly Dahl to the Youth Room with the Hunter (Second Large Hint, I cant think of any other CLUES (Third one right there.))

Click here to listen to a great song!

Master Bookmark Cutter Robert Mason here.

I have taken a brief sabbatical from my endless chopping and slicing of paper in order to provide you with this message:

Where's Waldo will occur tonight.

Figure 1-A, a North American Waldo (Waldo Americanus) in it's natural environment.

"How?" and "Why?" are totally natural questions for yourselves to have at this point. THEY ARE ALSO QUESTIONS THAT WILL GO UNANSWERED.

The questions "When?" and "Where?" are totally natural questions as well; the answers to which are: "Seven Thirty" and "Meet at the church, then we'll go to the Pen Centre"

The most important (or not) questions is "What?" Curse you internally for that question! I must return to my cutting of bookmarks! I will humour you, however. Where's Waldo involves a number of Waldo's (People dressed and disguised) that will be hiding out in the Pen Center. We, in groups, will have to find said Waldo's and get them to sign a paper. The group with the most signatures wins, and consequently will not recieve any promised prize for at least a year.

Baking & Boardgames!!!

Well, Tom has given you a little sneak-preview but I'm here with the Down-Low, the Low-Down.

We will, as has been hinted at (and even said directly) be baking pizza, this is what pizza looks like:

Except that that pizza looks a bit gross, you'll be able to put only what YOU want on YOUR North-American, Consumerist, Individualist, Rainforest-Burning, Third World Exploiting Pizza. Mmmmmm...

This is what the fire that burns the rainforest looks like.

This is what the baby koalas in the rainforests that we burn down look like when fires hem them in on all sides:

How adorable!

In addition to and in synergy with said pizzas, there will be boardgame playing. Boardgames will be provided but it is essential that people bring boardgames that they enjoy and are willing to share with others to play.

So, in summary:
o Meeting will occur at regular time.
o Baking will occur, mmm Pizza! But only really snackish Pizza, not like a whole meal!
o Boardgames will occur.
o We will go to the Mason's for a rockin' good time!

Bible Study

Hello all,

To those who didn't make it out last Thursday we watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding and followed it up with some wonderful conversations on church and ethnic culture, how movies portray dating, relationships, sex, and our thoughts on those things (among other things). A good time was had by all. Stay tuned for the next movie and discussion night...

This Thursday, however, we'll be talking about the story of The Tower of Babel as we continue our trek through the Hebrew Scriptures (aka the Old(er) Testament). So come on out and join the conversation of how the Hebrew Scriptures speak into our lives today.

Stay tuned to hear from Robert about Friday...but we may be Baking some Pizza and playing board games, but I'll let him tell you about that!

Friday Youth & Thursday Movie Night

Hey all, alright...so This Thursday is the last Thursday in the month so instead of our regularly scheduled bible study (currently kicking it old school/testament) we will have a movie and discussion night.

Soo, come to Char and my house for 6pm and bring snacks and/or dinner if you need it. We'll watch a good movie together and then talk about it afterward...

PLUS, if there's time we can play some Warlords on the Atari 2600...also hooked up now are my old school Nintendo as well as a Sega Genesis which Charity has brought into my life!

So, come Thursday 6pm, Char and my house, movie, snacks (byos)discussion...good times...perhaps video games...more good times.

NEXT UP:

Friday Dec. 1
We are going to be going to see a band called New World Son click here to hear them. The show is absolutly FREE. The one thing is that it starts at 7pm at Southridge...sooo, we'll be meeting at Scott Street at 6:30pm and we'll be leaving shortly there after, so BE ON TIME or else you can go straight to Southridge.

We will hopefully be going to a house afterwards...stay tuned for that. If you would like to offer your place then contact Jordan Duerrstein ASAP.

Thanks for your wonderful attention.

P.S. Why not bring some money on Friday to get yourself a smart looking SSMBY hoodie or better yet to support the Noah's Ark kindergarten we're supporting through MCC as a group (I'll take an offering before we leave).

P.S.S. Had a meeting today to plan for the big Christmas Banquet...it's sounding good...think of inviting some friends the date is Fri. Dec. 22 and tickets will be $10 (available soonly)

Peace

An actual dialogue heard recently at the corner of Scott & Vine

BCP: Brrrrr, It's cold outside. Not to mention I have nothing to wear!

CP: What?!? How can that be??? Don't you have one of these nifty ultra-cool SSMBY hoodies???

BCP: SSMBY Hoodies?!? NO WAY!!!!

CP: WAY!!!!

BCP: Wow, they're totally RAD!!!

CP: Yeah, and check out this cool feature, they have a genuine* kangaroo pouch!!!

BCP: NO WAY, a kangaroo pouch...I could keep all of my big league chew in there!!! That is so gnarly!

CP: Yeah, I'm more of a fan of bubble tape, but I hear ya!

BCP: But can anyone get those??? They must cost a fortune...I bet a stylish hoodie like that would go for like $200.

CP: Anyone can get those...you don't even have to be cool, but if you got one it'd probably raise your cool level by 23 experience points...and as to how expensive they'd be...yeah I'm sure they'd go for AT LEAST $300 if you bought them in a store like Bargain Herolds or Bi-Way, but if you go to Pastor Tom he can hook-you up from his hoodie closet for the low-low cost of $35!

BCP: Wow, that's so cheap I can't afford not to get one!!

CP: You bet, but you better hurry because there's only a limited amount available...and once they're gone...they're gone!

BCP: Wow, I'm so stoaked, I gonna go crazy-go-nuts if I don't run out and get one RIGHT NOW!

CP=Cool Person
BCP=Budding Cool Person

*genuine kangaroo pouch not made from actual kangaroo's...no kangaroo's were hurt in the making of SSMBY hoodies.

Make A Movie Night

Well everyone, this is it; the night you've all been waiting for. Not quite, it's not that night yet, but it will be. Oh, it will be. Because tomorrow night for youth is... Make A Movie Night!

Now, (as you are aware via Analytic Proposition) Youth will INVOLVE THE MAKING OF MOVIES! I just couldn't contain my excitement in regards to that, well, that and Caps Lock.

The making of movies will be followed by hanging out at someone's home. Of this I am certain. Whose home, for how long, and why are all currently beyond my Spectromancy to know.

Thursday And Friday!

Hey everybody, Rob Mason again.

So, this here's a double-whammy; I'm gonna tell y'all about To-Nite and To-More-O-Nite!

Tonight, (That is, Thursday the 2nd of November) IS BIBLE STUDY!!! Come on out. Tonight all of you non-members-as-of-right-now are going to have an exclusive oppurtunity! We'll be sitting in on a membership meeting and afterward we'll likely head to Timmy's and talk about the meeting.

And tomorrow night is Friday (November the 3rd)and will be Get To Know Gary Night. I've just received confirmation that for Get To Know Gary Night. we will be learning about grapes. and the process of their growth and systematic harvest.

I don't know that there will actually be grapes on the vine anymore, as I believe they've already gone to make alcohol.

Be sure to dress warmly. We will be outside. You will regret not being warm: you will regret being cold. Verily!

Also, at Bible Study next Thursday -- that is to say November 9th -- Marg Janzen is going to be coming in and talking to us about MCC and some of the work that it's doing. We will also be helping to put together Sewing Kits for people in other countries. If you would like to make a contribution you are welcome to do so. The kits cost $21 to make, but a lot of people donate in increments of $20, so even so much as bringing a few dollars will sort of "top off" those twenties that others have brought in.

This is a great way to get involved (sort of like the "Pay it Forward" thing from last week) and to do something for people other than ourselves.

See you tonight!

Bible Night! Movie Study!

As many of you are aware, the hippest of us have been meeting at 7 on Thursday nights, sitting in a circle and... studying the Bible!

This Thursday (Oct. 26th) is not just any Bible Study however, instead, it is a movie-study-Bible-night-awesome! We will be meeting at 6, if you can't have eaten dinner by this time, bring some food to eat. If you like to snack when you watch movies, bring snacks! We'll be watching a movie and then talking about what it means and what we can learn from it.

I am certain, however, without a shadow of a doubt, that there will be gratuitous amounts of:
a) Blood.
b) Blood outside of bodies.
c) Explosions.
d) Communists with blood outside of their bodies.

That said, I think we'll be watching Rambo III, but you'll have to be there to find out!

Hay Ride

DM: “You find yourself in the dark, surrounded by the smell of hay. You feel the firm bale of hay beneath you, soft but pricking through the spaces in your leather armour to irritate your skin. By the little bit of light shed by the last crescent of the Silver Moon you can see row upon row of vineyard slowly passing by. From the darkness ahead of you ring the cries of battle. What do you wish to do?”

Baragon: “I make a spot check to see if there any dangerous creatures nearby. My Dwarven dark-vision prevents any negative effects that would otherwise arise from the darkness of night.”

DM: “Right you are, Baragon. Roll your D20”

Dice roll. 7. The DM confers with some papers, muttering some calculations to himself.

DM: “Success! You see a large humanoid crouching behind the grapes. He is unaware that you have spotted him. You also realize that the vineyard is not moving, rather, you are on some sort of wagon. What would you like to do next?”

Baragon: “I inform the party and tell them to prepare for battle. I also take this time to equip my +7 double critical Dragon-Axe.”

Edo'ran: "I will scout ahead to determine the source of the sounds of battle."

Perhaps you’ve often found yourself in similar situations to Baragon, the level 7 Dwarf Fighter and Edo'ran the level 6 Half-Elf Rogue. These are times filled with excitement and adventure, mystery and intrigue. But now you have the chance to experience a Hay Ride in real life!

This Friday (Oct. 27th) is the Hay Ride! For those who haven't been out to the Hayride before, it is a large youth event involving other youth groups and hay.

We are meeting at 7’o’clock here at the church. Bring a doubloon to cover the costs

Come in clothes that can be filled with Hay and that will keep you warm. Come ready to stuff people (of the same sex) with Hay! Come with your readiness to wrestle and tackle and have a good time!

I know Tom will be riding on the Escape from Russia Simulator Wagon AKA The Sissy Wagon. You may join him, if you’re sissy enough, heck, I might even join him!

Make sure you’re here at 7, not at regular time: Bring $2.

Jason & Tammy Rock

Hey all,

So this Friday all your adult leaders are gone...we're taking the student leaders away to camp crossroads for the provincial leadership building weekend...

BUT don't fret, because there is still youth...and not just any ho-hum youth neither...we called up J(aka Butterball) & Tammy to take over youth for the night and I believe they should have something very good planned for you!

So, be here regular youth time (7:30pm)...regular youth room(as in upstairs)!

Also, for you ladies...if you want to go to the Beautiful Unique Girl event at Grantham, then I need to hear from you today!

Peace

Haute Couture au Gazette

Hey everyone, Robert Mason here.

This upcoming Friday (as you've probably guessed from my clever Blog Title) is going to the Newspaper Fashion Show. This has been tons of fun in the past and I know I'm just itching for another shot at designing newspaper clothing.

However, to ensure sufficient quantities of newspaper, we will need your assistance. This is fairly straightforward and merely involves you collecting newspapers and bringing them to the church on Friday. This does not mean that I want you going around stealing newspapers from your neighbours before they've even taken them inside. And this does not mean I want you to assault the paperboy (paperperson?) in order to loot their supply. All I want is for you to collect unwanted papers from your own home when your family is done with them.

Then, Friday night we'll design glorious fashion statements out of the newspaper!

Thanksgiving Friday!

Hello everyone, this is Robert! Make sure you read this post and the two beneath it, as they are all relevant and new!

This Friday is the Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner! It's been a ton of fun in the past, and I'm sure it will be again! I LOVE EXCLAMATION MARKS!!! Also, it's a great way to show the love of Christ to our community in the most practical way imaginable: feeding them.

So, what does this mean for you? It means there are a variety of ways for you to help out. Help will be needed for setup, takedown, serving, etc. But it also means you get to eat some spectacular food! Here are some things you can help with and who you can talk to for it.

Serving - James
Decorating - Kelly
Setup - Jordan

Also, if you're serving, be sure to wear a white shirt and black pants!
Also, if you have any disposable containers that you can bring to the church, do so! Things like margarine containers are what we're talking about here. They can be used to send out the leftovers in.
Also, the Friday after this one will be a Newspaper Fashion show! Please bring any newspapers that you may have.
Also, we can still use more desserts for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Anything thats easily served is good. For example: squares, brownies, tarts. Contact Tom if you are bringing something so he knows whether or not he has enough.
Also, we do not have a house for Friday! This isn't as exciting as having a house! IF YOU HAVE A HOUSE THAT CAN BE MADE AVAILABLE, MAKE IT SO!

PS: More of you need to make some guesses at the most recent eye, it's lonely.

This has been another successful blogging event by Robert Mason.

Beautiful Unique Girl

This is Blogmaster Robert again.

Whenever we have a guys/girls night the guys eat meat. It's delicious.

For some reason (it stumps me to this day) the girls tend to move in a bit of a different direction. Typically the girls host a sort of a "slumber party." They do things like paint their nails I think. Which brings us to "The WØRD" ...

Beautiful Unique Girl!

....Satin pillows, lavalamps, chocolate fondue, pizza, shag carpet, intimate concert session....

This relaxing non-intimidating enviroment is a great way to address the key issues that young women are facing and struggling with today.

It sounds like all of the stuff you girls talk about doing at the nights that you host yourselves. I think you'd all like this event a lot.

Please click here for informations pertaining to the event.

The cost was originally $35 but Tom feels the event is so worthy of your attendance that he is willing to pay $20 for each of you who wishes to attend. That means your cost is only $15. As an added bonus you'll be going along with Charity Stephenson and Sarah Campbell. What more could you possibly ask? Oh, yeah, I guess there is that. Sorry girls, I can't attend: no boys allowed.

Heck, I'd go if I could though, Granthams gonna be crammed full of babes!
